The Broken Ankle and the Silver Lining

Hello again after a long absence! It's been a busy year, launching a new business, taking courses, and generally keeping a household going. However, catching up on The New Yorker has remained a priority. What also happened is that I started reading actual books, something that I was not really permitting myself to do until I had finished the backlog of New Yorkers. I also started writing, a novel, which hopefully will find favour with the publishing gods at some point. Right now I'm just writing it for myself, because I feel like it and because I can.

I want to make it clear that I was already on track to complete all the New Yorkers in my possession on my summer vacation before the accident happened. Certainly though, breaking my ankle on August 4th and being basically chairbound all day long has accelerated the completion process. I've now completed all New Yorkers up to and including July 28, 2014, which is the last copy I have with me on "vacation" (not really a vacation at all anymore, since I didn't get to my family cottage and am stuck unable to swim, play tennis, or even walk anywhere).

After I see the surgeon on August 25, I'll be heading home, where there should be three issues waiting for me: August 4, August 11 & 18, and August 25. I have a feeling that it won't take long to get through those, since there is precious little else I can do until the cast comes off.
